green adder's-mouth orchid
Malaxis unifolia

	This tiny orchid is barely noticeable as you hike along. I walked past it many times before it was called to my attention. The plant stands about 6 inches tall and has a stem of 20 to 50 tiny green flowers. A single leaf wraps around the stem.
	The green adder's-mouth orchid is found over the eastern half of the United States, but is on the list of species of conservation concern for several states. In Arkansas it is found scattered throughout the state in shaded moist woods and bogs.
